Arcadia, a highly intellectual play by Tom Stoppard, pulls the viewer back and forth between time periods as a group of scholars in the present try to solve a mystery locked away since the 19th century. My main goal in lighting this play was to give the audience a clear sense of the difference between time periods. Aided by the acting and costumes, the set remained the same throughout, and I wanted to create two different worlds in which the characters reside. To accomplish this, I looked deeper into the driving forces of each time period.
